Quote Mode — Trial II

Identify the Character from Their Voice Line

About Quote Mode

Quote mode presents a single cryptic voice line or piece of dialogue from the Lands Between, and your task is to name the character who speaks it. Lines are drawn from across the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC — from infamous boss taunts to the quiet musings of wandering NPCs. A demigod like Radahn addresses the player as a challenger worthy of the Redmanes’ respect, Rennala speaks in the wounded, wandering cadence of a broken queen of Liurnia and the Carian royal family, and Messmer’s lines in the Shadow Realm carry the fanatic certainty of a commander who burns his enemies alive for the Golden Order he still half-believes in. Recognising a voice means recognising the character behind it, not just the words on screen.

How to Play Quote Mode

  1. Read the displayed quote carefully — tone and vocabulary are clues in themselves.
  2. Type the name of the character you believe said it and submit.
  3. Each guess tells you whether you found the speaker; keep refining until you do.

Tips & Strategies

  • Pay attention to how a character addresses you — "Tarnished", "champion", "maiden", or by name — since titles narrow the field to a specific faction or story arc.
  • Distinctive phrasing and archaic words often point to demigods or ancient figures rather than the more plainly-spoken merchants and townsfolk of Roundtable Hold.
  • Quotes referencing blood, rot, or the Scarlet Rot usually trace back to Mohg or Rykard’s corner of the story rather than the Golden Order faithful like Morgott or Godrick.
  • Lines about flame, ash, or the Frenzied Flame frequently belong to Messmer, Midra, or other characters entangled with fire-based factions.
  • When stuck, think about which characters have the most memorable spoken lines — major story bosses tend to get more distinct, quotable dialogue than background NPCs.
  • Some quotes are addressed directly to companions or rivals rather than to the player — a line referencing "brother" or "sister" often comes from one of Marika’s children speaking about another, such as Morgott or Mohg reflecting on their shared, fractured family.
